Hi, does anyone have a solution to correcting our feeder issue; on thin stock up to 150gsm, sheets traveling down feeder board nice and straight until they reach the side lay and twist like they hit something. one thing I have noticed is the suction wheels are not evenly sucking. The problem is intermittent and occurs mostly on the drive side, we are currently taping a piece of paper covering half the wheel but this doesn't always work.
Any ideas are much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

  • Couple of things you can check are make sure the sheet is arriving at the headstops around 177 degrees, doesnt need to be perfect but I would say you want +/- 5 degrees. Also, make sure both side guides have their roller lifting off the guide at around 320 degrees, this needs to be pretty close. if both of these are ok than check the plastic plates that drive each guide. you will need to remove the bellows between the side guide and the side frame. you will see a shaft with a key way on each side of it. on the side guide there is a plate with 2 tabs that ride in these key ways. manually turn this shaft forward or backward, there should be very slight movement, definitly not sloppy.

4 million is nothing, basically a new machine. Just make sure your sheet is arriving at the headstops at 177 degrees and the lifting time of the side guide roller is 320 degrees.

Update; sheet arriving ok at headstops but what I have noticed is when using drive side lay the suction wheels are not evenly sucking, the operator wheel has much more suction and as a result when the sheet arrives at these wheels it is dragged in by the dominant wheel thus scewing the sheet. heavier stock is pretty much unaffected but the lighter it goes the worse it gets, I am currently taping a piece of paper over part of the strong wheel enough to even the suction but its hit and miss and not ideal. (could do with a tap to control the flow?)

Sounds like the suction is uneven between both lays.Probably need to clean the filters from memory it's under the feeder then clean out the holes in the roller with compressed air. The suction plate of the pull lay comes off to also be cleaned and there is a hole that ligns up to the plate when it is time to pull the paper - that gets blocked also and will need to be cleaned out. Remember it's only when pulling the hole is in the upward position.

  • Quite possible that the small air passage ways that go up to the suction wheels is clogged on one side. These are pretty simple to remove and clean. I think you can remove the bellows and remove the block that holds the suction wheel. Once removed there is a small allen bolt that holds the wheel in, be careful because there are also small shims in there. Once its all apart you can see all the passage ways and clean them. You can also test the vacuum system up to the wheels with this disassembled. Make sure both sides are getting the same amount of vacuum. Pretty easy, maybe an hour or two to get both sides done.
