Hello,

My first post here. We're a small family business with a large & small format digital print set up. Currently we outsource our litho work and as I am sure you know there's some fantastic prices for 4col work available from trade printers.

We do a reasonable amount of NCR pads and single and two colour work, again all outsourced.

We'd like to bring these jobs in house for speed and cost benefits.

is the QM 2colour a good starting press for us?

I'd pay a bit more for a PM46, I've got both a PM46 & a QM46. I run 2 machines at the same time and the PM feed to me is definitely better.

  • Thanks Inky.

the majority of the work we intend to run is basic and not extremely high volumes.

Went to see the QM today, it's being sold by a company who maintain presses and finishing Equipment.

It's a 1996 model, with 5m impressions. Has had a full rebuild before being installed in the last printers where it sat idle for 5 years as the press operator preferred the Ryobi press. It had was idle that long they've replaced the rollers due to flat spots.

I was surprised by the cleanliness of the machine, even behind the covers.

Been offered the press for under £4k with a 6 month warranty on mechanicals, delivery, installation, 2-3 days training, and a print down plate maker.

Go for a PM46 model, lots of improvements over a QM46.

I suspect the PM will be slightly out of our budget, what improvements did they make?

  • Heidelberg made improvements to the feeder, inking unit, ink duct, dampening unit, electronics. You would be surprised at what you can pick up a good PM46 for.

@mrheidelberg, What is different between PM and QM?
