forgot to update this one.
After all that time, it turned out to be a board, robbing the registration sensors and motors of power, just randomly and only after solid use.
The sporadicness of it was starting to really annoy me. never would do it with tech here.... Finally we sat and watched with a meter on it... JUST enough voltage lost to briefly kill that steering motor....
