Its a Graphics arts trick to add a metal-like visual. I would run the Ink, customer will not appreciate the the gradient effect.

roland dg spent billions creating special gold and silver inks for there wide format solvent printers, which run cmyk... why?
because you cannot make a metalic out of cmyk, you can print something that resembles it, but on close up its just a halftone.. if you want to print silver or gold im affraid you need to add it as an extra spot colour. simples
