Silver from CMYK process

Can anyone tell me how to print Silver Colour from CMYK process colours.

Quick answer - you can't. You can simulate with around 25% K but you really need metallic ink. Same goes for gold.

If you're thinking of incorporating a metallic into a four colour pic check out MetalFX, do a search for WISE actions for Photoshop as well.

Don't forget that metallics are opaque and you'd have to apply knockouts correctly if you're laying it down last.

(MetalFX metallics are designed to go down first)

Unless you use MetalFX inks - they are closing but there should still be stock of ink around for a good while. With this ink you can lay Silver down 1st.

Sorry Richard, not familiar with them so I wouldn't know. We only get Flint unfortunately, which in my opinion isnt exactly the greatest (prefer Toyo, or Hendschy). None the less, I hope you have found a solution for your dilemma Prasanga

Its a high tack/high metallic content formulation so that you can print process inks on top wet-on-wet.

Works really well but more expensive than standard metallics.

Lay silver down 1st and gold down last........and run 5-10 % alcohol...as far as building a silver from cmyk.....why bother.....run 877 silver .....

Try this C50 M39 Y39 K0
Use gradient with a lighter and darker variant of this color to make it shiny.

OK, would "shiny look" do for you?

Silver will never be silver unles it is run as a spot colour, you might get it to look something like but it will never be metalic so it will never be silver

eye candy has a plug in for photoshop called chrome, it's great, it really looks like shiny metal when printed process.

No amount of shiny type effects with trompe d'oeil gradients and shades out of process inks (even Hex) will replicate a METALLIC pigmented ink.

well i could agree and say it is silver, but that would be a lie because as said before it wont be silver until it is mettalic and i doubt that ee candy would look Mettalic
And theirs a difference between havin imagination and being realistic

Yeah silver ,IMO can't be created out of process and as everyone apparentley agrees SOP is silver down 1st unless its free standing...I did have a designer once who insisted on running silver last over the black ,some kind of weird effect he was looking for , apparentley he sold it to the client...

Silver CANNOT BE CREATED out of a set of process colours. Pantone have tried and have not succeeded, i think that might be saying something.
