auto Adjusting print quality-can it be stopped?

I am looking for a "print quality be damned" option. Every printer has this feature, usually hidden....The nexpress had it. start service session to run without constant calibration. I would do this to avoid annoying small errors on jobs that I don't really care about overall color quality...and to get a little extra out of consumables...or on a 250,000 sheet job, and the developer goes kaka on sheet #249,990. LOL "just finish for cripe's sake!!!!"

Does the Igen have anything like this?

Reason: The thick 15# cover paper I am trying to run has all sorts of troubles-transfer I think, being one of them. It runs about 250 sheets then "adjusting print quality"....runs about 50 more then "adjusting print quality" after the second one, a longer adjusting time, my print comes out with magenta spots...and clouding. I would like to just get through this job. I've grown weary of trying to adjust the machine for this crap paper, only to have regular paper come out looking bad when I'm done. And...the job has only B&W and sepia photos on it, with a small pea green logo, and blue text. SO I don't care about color being even... I think I'm nearly on the last big run of it for awhile too.


Or is there something simple I can do to the machine to make it better? Any ideas? I lowered transfer figures, that seemed to help....but briefly. should I crank them up?

What do you have the Toner Purge setting on? You can use less frequent Toner Purges by raising the numbers.

Yep, Auto Toner Purge has an NVM. I'm sure you guys are talking about the igen3 since I remember that seemed to be way less efficient at adjusting print quality. In the igen4 at least, I just do an NVM search for "toner" and it has a setting for each station. I forget what it's called exactly, but the default values are 125, 125, 120, 125 for stations 1, 2, 3, 4 respectively. Change the values to around 80 for higher quality jobs, and 140 for lower quality jobs. It will adjust print quality more or less frequently as needed. Can be very good time-saver if you have long low-quality runs.

Could not have said it better....and on long runs that have say a lot of cyan I take the number up to 200 because its using enough toner to not need purging.

I see the table with the values... How do I change them?

Are they set to default? I would start there. Also pay attention to the Age 1,2,3,4. This number lets you know if you are running too much purge or too little. I would guess that since its adjusting print quality the numbers will be low.

My on-site tech is on a week off and i had a visit from another tech. We had a talk about the fuser module because of some trouble im having with the external heat rolls, he told me that if the bearing on the external heat rolls is old and damaged it could increase the distance from the heat sensors, this would cause the machine to heat up more often during runs, which would be posted as adjusting image quality.
The igen3 we talked about does adjust alot, compared the other igen3 i operate. Your problem might be toner purge, but keep this in mind if your external heat rolls have been running for long time.

Okay, I really need to look deeper into why it does this magenta spitting after it does the auto adjust....I had suspected it was paper related, but I was wrong. THough I am noticing it much more on any cover/coated stock...but that may just be coincidence, because my larger jobs are cover...

Do you have an iGen 3 or 4? Look into the iGen when the Mag unit has been pulled out. See the connection and tube where the toner is to be dumped out into? It is about 1" square shaped on a tube. Is it plugged? What kind of tube is it connected to? Metal or plastic?

I ask this because I had mag issues like crazy. I had plastic tubes and they were either worn or charged so the toner wasn't going down to the waste container and it was being blown all around. After I got the tube upgrade and a fan upgrade the mag hardly ever spits now.
