XPE-03-03991 fault code plus related faults

Sorry if this is somewhere else but it did not come up in the search. I am on an iGEN 4. I am continuing to get a fault code for XPE-03-03991, which is a CRIM 1 (M) Communication Loss fault. Sometimes it goes away with a restart and resetting the breakers. Other times it comes with another fault, XPE-06-1011 which is a Magenta Channel Separation Pull Timing Fault. Does anyone know what causes this or a workaround.

Often it is accompanied with a XPE-06-4581 CRIM-to-ROS 1 (M) Communications Loss fault and XPE-06-3240 X2C Communication Fault

I seems like I get it under control and then a few weeks later I am fighting with the same problems again.

And, of course, it always happens during weeks when we cannot afford to have any downtime.

We have really good techs but I think this may have them a little stumped.

Have you tried cleaning all the related connectors with DeOxit?

Can it be assumed that they swapped CRIM1 and CRIM2? And that the fault stayed in Magenta?

Which connectors? I got the press operator job by default and never had formal training. I have learned a lot along the way, from the techs and from the remote tech specialists but this is one that won't go away. Techs came in and struggled with it for three days, finally decided it was the magenta laser, replaced it and the problem went away - for about a month or two and now it's back with a vengeance and brought new friends (fault codes)….

All I know is they eventually ended up replacing the magenta laser.

Does anyone know if certain kinds of paper stock could cause these faults? Or room environment itself? We use PVC stock (which sucks because it attracts toner and dust like crazy as it runs through the machine) but these faults happen on normal card stock - not the PVC stuff. I don't remember having all these problems before we started using the PVC stock, though … And generally the faults happen after an image transmission fault. Resetting the fault usually works but occasionally I have to reboot or even reinitialize the PSIP. It's just annoying because you might get the fault three times during one lift of 500 sheets and then not again for another couple of lifts and then it comes back.

How is the temp and humidity where the igen is running? What software level are you running on the psip and server?

Right now it is within the normal limits, according to the Press Environment monitor.

I am not sure what numbers you are looking for but maybe this will give you an indication:

spent the better part of 2 days a few weeks ago, on a similar color communication error, only to find it was a building power issue(randomly dropping voltage)

likely its not your problem, but easy to check and eliminate.

These are the codes I usually get - generally not all at once. Yesterday I was lucky to push through 500 sheets at times... I was doing better today for a little while and then my little friends started coming back ...

There was another one I got a couple of times but I didn't write it down and it hasn't been coming back like these do. These all happen at various times and in various combinations... no rhyme or reason I have found. Some can be a simple reset and others require a reboot or reinitialize of PSIP. Occasionally I have to power down the printer and flip off all the breakers and turn them back on when doing a restart in order to get the machine back up. It is very annoying because it adds another 15-30 minutes or more each time the machine stops. I have one that is 32,000 postcards and we separate them in groups of 1000 records (or 500 sheets) and sometimes it was throwing these faults multiple times during one lift of 500 sheets. So this could be as much as 2-3 hours or more of wasted time if it keeps happening

I had these problems (most of them) before and Xerox would come out and fix them but it wouldn't last long - maybe a week. Last time they ended up replacing the Magenta ROS/laser after struggling with these issues for 2 days and finally on the third day it stopped throwing faults - until a couple of weeks ago.

Well, now I can add a couple more fault codes:

XPE-06-4231 ROS 1 (M) + 5 VDC FAULT

AND EXPE-08-5240 ( there was no reference as to what this is) plus the original fault code of

XPE-03-3991 - also no reference as to what fault type this is

Sounds like a flaky power supply or the router on the card cage is starting to have issues.
