Which second hand press, 242, 250, 262, 700, C60 ?

Hi all,

This year we plan on purchasing a second user Xerox press on full contract.
The big question is, which one will give us the best and least hassle results ?

The models are all in the title, I don't think we will get a C60 at a good price.

We absolutely have to have a rip and a de-curling device, we do not need a finisher as we have offline equipment which is better.

Any advice would be gratefully welcomed.

Only dcp 700 is press, better 700i or 770 if you find them second hand.

Hi,

Do you mean the 700 range are regarded as a press but the others are not ?
You and others here know a lot more than I do, ive been using workcenters and phasers for years.

Is it easy to learn how to use the 700 rip ?

The 242 was an extremely capable printer for us printing 20,000 to 30,000 11x17 prints a month.
But, it has some limitations compared to the production line. For example, printing on heavy weight stock or coated glossy stock it slows down quite a bit.
It won't duplex glossy / coated stocks. Duplex registration isn't very good compared to higher end models and registration on the sheet takes some trial and error to get right. (registration from the built in drawers isn't very good but from the OHCF it was fine for us with some trial and error - almost never used the drawers under the machine itself.)

We were offered a 700 with finisher last year for 10 grand, very nearly bought it.

Whats the difference between a 700 and a 700i or even was there a 7002 ?

Im glad you asked !

Its a great press but it does not have the full 'color by words' feature set. This may not be of interest to you but with regards to colour control, unless you buy a raster image processing device with the press, such as Efi or Xerox you will have literally no color, contrast, gamma, highlights, shadows, images etc etc controls whatsoever.

Xerox sold this machine for nearly 2 years with inaccurate, officially quoted specification's and they have only recently changed the specs because I informed them.

Its reasonably fast, the res is good and the stock runs reasonably flat, registration accuracy is reasonably good.

If you buy it I suggest you do not buy it 'as standard'.

We purchased the machine new from a Xerox reseller, we did get a good deal and they are a very nice company to deal with, but I cannot remember how much we paid for the press.
