Register slow response

Hi, does any one know how to speed up the response on the register.
When a unit is selected to move in any given direction the response is very slow and once it does move were constantly chasing the result to get it to settle.
From where you start out on the makeready to where you end up is a decent distance.
I've gone to rezeroing the units for each make ready so that plates are going on square but it's a pain as they are all a bit out of alignment anyway.
I've squirted some penetrating oil along the back edge screws thinking this may help..........
