Hello Forum Friends-

I wanted to know if anyone has developed a way to run blank sheets thru the iGen to test its runnability.

I'm looking to run it without printing on it, which I believe will keep from accruing click charges.

What setup/method do you use?

I believe you can setup a blank document for the stock size you are testing, as a pdf. No toner used no click.

Have you ever run magnetic stock thru it?

We have tryed several magnetic stocks, Xerox brand as well as others. They all seem to run a few sheets then begin to jam. Not quite sure why. Almost seem to begin magnetizing within the machine. We will keep testing.

Wow, very interesting. I'm looking to test a stock called MagneCote (http://www.magnecote.com/welcome.html) and they suggest cutting strips of their stock and placing them to the magnetically attractive areas along the sheet transport in order to allow it to run. What sort of setup did you have to do for the magnetic stocks?

The stocks tested were not magnetic. It is run through a magnetizer post printing. No modifications to the equipment. Placing strip of the stock along the transport path would mean basically the entire machine. I did a quick look at the MagneCote website. Couple of concerns here. Stock is rated to temperatures of 120 degrees. IGen fuser temps are higher than this. There is mention of an iGen on the site. However, Some Xerox and Canon dry toner equipment as well as other similar types of equipment MagneCote is not recommended on this type of equipment due to the high heat involved. If a sheet were to jam at the fuser location, it could melt the magnetic material to the roll. This information should be conveyed to any potential customer with this type of equipment. MagneCote will not support claims associated with equipment damage for these digital machines.

UPDATE:

We had a rep from MagneCote come out to our shop and give us a demo. They provided case studies of running their pre-magnetized stock successfully on iGens & made mention of several improvements to the substrate coming soon.

This may seem sort of late but is the NVM (12509) for the Multifeed disabled? This is the only way to run magnet stock without it jamming after every 2 sheets.

Also the tech needs to set an NVM (6876) to the maximum value as well.

We had an instruction sheet with the Xerox stock. We changed all settings advised on the sheet. I do not recall if the Multifeed was disabled, but if listed it was changed. Now, as for the tech making any adjustments, there were none involved in us testing the various materials. So no to the NVM(6876) being changed.

UPDATE #2: (and to answer CRocket's question)

We were successful in our first run of MagneCote 17mil. Registration was off on the first 3 sheets, improving with each pass. Color was vivid. Adhesion was solid (we scratch test everything now). I had to tweak the transfer settings a bit to remove a "snow" artifact.

I see an "attractive" future with this stock! ;-)

Resurrecting an old thread again...

Being asked to print on magnetic stock. I have been pointed at Masterpiece Graphix and Magnum Magnetics. Neither have any real specs for running the stock. For one, the GSM is off the charts and I can't find the UltraMagnet in the Xerox media list for duping the specs.

I have the 2006 sell sheet for Ultramagnet but cannot find it currently listed on the Xerox website. It says that only the iGen 110 is compatible with it, we have the Igen 90.

I am not comfortable with just putting it in and giving the samples from the other vendors a try. Is there someone here who has an iGen3 90 that is using magnetic stock?

Are either Masterpiece Graphix or Magnum Magnetics stocks that are pre-magnetized? The Xerox UltraMagnet is not, btw.
