Paper dust mystery

This keeps building up very quickly, maybe 500 sheets of different types of stock, none of it is offset printed so this isn’t offset powder though it does look like it. We have opened and cleaned it out of the fuser a few times but I can’t tell where it is coming from, it is all over the refresh roller as well as the fuser web, it seems to start at both front and back of machine and work its way to the center of the fuser. I can’t see it building up or coming from anywhere. Any ideas?

Dissolve this powder in water, mix thoroughly. If an emulsion forms, it is paper. If it precipitates or refuses to wet, the polymer.
500 sheets... it's very dusty paper. Try office paper for printers if you are working with coated or lightly coated paper.
Perhaps the shaft is jammed and it works like a sender cutting off a thin layer when passing through the paper.

WOW... that's a lot of powder! You get that much after just 500 sheets?

If it's not clear toner, all it can really be is paper dust I think. But I don't think toner would stand the heat in the fuser like that anyway. Has your deburr unit been serviced? Try some clear tape on your paper and see how much dust you can pull off an edge. Look at the dust under a loupe and see if you can confirm paper or not.
