metalic on uncoated paper

we have a picky customer who wants to print a pewter metallica color on uncoated side of sheet. the problem is he does not like how it looks when it dries it loses to much of the metallic shine . He like's how the gloss metalic color swatch looks .so the only thought i had was to run a pass with the metallic to seal the area and than hit it again so that it wont absorb into the paper as much keeping its metallic look. Just wondering if anyone else would have another suggestion.

Is there a way that you could explain to him that metallic coating on an ucoated sheet will not look as good? Or maybe it would be possible to emboss the side that he wants metallic? I'm not sure if that is within your capabilities, but many people simply want embossing without even knowing it.

Perhaps I will need to do more research in order to come up with the answer, just spitballing here.

Well it is kind of late now but I guest best practice would be to show coated pms swatches when printing on coated and uncoated when printing on uncoated but print x2 times is what I would if dealing with situation that already occured.

did you try to put a coating on the uncoated side to provide more pop for the ink?

One thing we tried many years ago was to print a yellow in back of a gold metalic to make it pop. The yellow was a spot color and sealed the sheet pretty good, it did get that color to pop pretty good. So maybe a gray in back of that silver??? Just a thought.

thats what we are going to try next .gonna put down a silver than run the pewter metallic to see if that will help keep its shine.plus i found a company that just deals with metallics and gonna try to get a silver with more flecks in it.they also have a high gloss silver as well. glad the customer said price wasn't a problem. don't get many like them nowadays.

I'm glad you found a solution. There are probably a few different ones, but you never know how a customer is going to react. Sometimes I think they expect us to be mind readers as well as printers.

Even if you were able to get a metallic finish on uncoated paper, it might not be exactly what they have in mind. It's difficult to tell what exactly they mean.

I hope you were able to learn how to make them happy because there are sure to be more similar customers.
