Heidelberg MOFP Starting issues

When we press the start button on our MOFP the bell goes off. Then we press and hold it again, there is a slight delay and the machine starts up. Recently, after the bell, when we push and hold the start button the machine will not start. This usually is after the machine has been running. It never happens when the machine is cold. I am wondering if heat in the electrical cabinet could be an issue. We opened the panel and put a fan 2 feet away to see if that helps. Not enough info yet. I also thought, since there is a delay after you hold the on button, if there is a timer switch that may be malfunctioning. Thanks for any insight.

Is your MO a cptronic machine or relay logic?

it is a 1989 mofp L it has a council. the inside of the box is 90% solenoid...relays.

So jts a relay logic.If you still have tbis problem it could be a defect in a coule of things from a sticky motor brake release system to brake release switch and the relay logic.
After the bell warning signal do you hear the brake release click when machine fails to run.?

If yes check to see if brake moves to activate the microswitch on the brake mechanlsm if no problem should be from the relay logic.

Look into the above and let's have a feedback on further developments.

The brake appears to be hanging up when it is charged. If we slightly help it with a screw driver it fully releases and the press runs. Could this be contacts on relay D6 or D7, or is there some servicing of the brake that needs to be done.

Definitely brake service is needed, when energized, it likely is not compressing enough to make the switch (mounted on brake) to release press to run. It sometimes takes a few additional moments (sometimes longer!) for this to happen, creating a critical safety issue. Until you are able to get a mechanic in there, try blowing the brake out with compressed air. Be careful of the dust cloud!

We blew out the brake and it ran for a while issue free. It is happening again...possibly when the temp is hot in the shop. It appears when energized, the electric magnet is not compressing enough to make the switch. A little help with a screw driver pulls the brake in. I am familiar with the brake disks inside, I am thinking the electric magnet might be the problem. Any thoughts. I also have a movp motor with a brake on it. Does anyone know if these brakes are compatable to swap out.

Never had to replace a brake due to a bad magnet, but anything is possible! Seems to me that as long as the magnet is energizing you can discount the possibility of the electromagnet nor the control circuit at fault. You may want to measure voltage, is the full 24v getting to the magnet? Shouldn't be an issue, but can't hurt to be sure. Sounds like it needs a brake rebuild kit. Swapping brakes from one press to the other is easy enough, check the Binder tag (usually positioned where you can't readily see it...under side of brake - use a mirror) and see if they're the same. If diameter is the same, you've a good chance it will work.
