Copper Roller Ink Buildup

I have an ABDick 360 and am using VanSon Black rubber base ink. I have a situation where when there is not much ink coverage such as envelopes or sheets with very little print the ink builds up on the copper fountain roller. Have tried straight distilled water and distilled water with fountain concentrate (different amounts). The ink will build up on the copper roller and then no matter how much I turn up the water it will scum in the area that the ink buildup is in. Any suggestions?

Have you tried using some chrome roller cleaner on the metal roller? Also you could try changing the cover on the water ductor, if the press is so equipped. A touch of isopropyl alcohol in the fountain solution might not hurt either. Good luck.

You can try changing ink with a different one.

It does sound like an ink water issue,i agree with aqazi81 if you have another ink laying around try running it. If that doesn't help try a fountain with a little gum in it.

I would begin by trying to etch out the copper roller. Mix a small amount of either Comet or Ajax household cleaner with some AGE till it reaches a paste consistency. Apply this paste with a cotton pad rubbing it aggressively in a circular pattern until you have thoroughly cleaned the copper water roller. If you can also add a bit of a strong plate cleaner to the mix that would be good too. Do this cleaning at the end of the day so that this can dry on the rollers overnight or better yet over the weekend. Clean off the next day with a cotton pad with fountain solution. Ill bet this will help you as you will be de sensitizing the copper fountain roller. Make this a part of a weekly routine and you should be good to go. WARNING TO ANYONE WITH A CHROME FOUNTAIN ROLLER INSTEAD OF COPPER..... Skip the Ajax or comet and use instead a much less abrasive cleaner such as cream of tartar or even a small micron spray powder.

never use Ajax to clean your water system it contains calcium bicarbonate which will continue to cause scumming, Comet is perfectly fine tho
