Hi there guys,
i'm in the Uk and on my second 7760 printer in a year, it just will not print on xerox paper its jaming on the time i'm using 120 glossy and satin and i cannot put any more than 20 sheets in the bottom tray 2, i fan the paper and do everything else that xerox have told me to do, i'm spending so much on paper and then throwing it away as it misprints or just jams xerox say its the first time this has happened, as i said they gave me a new printer last year and it prints ok on plain paper but as soon as i use glossy or satin the problems start,

desperation is becoming me!

Hi Guys,
i should have mentioned that i have only done 8500 prints on this machine and the other machine which broke down last year had done only 28,000 prints when it had to be replaced, Xerox are just blaming me.

  • Hi, by saying "paper its jaming on the time i'm using 120 glossy and satin" do you mean a 120# cover? I bet if you listen really really carefully, you will hear that printer is crying and jams you get caused by tears. This printer is rated to handle a 255 gsm cover max which is 90# cover, that is the problem most likely, if xerox had replaced it for you under these circumstances - God bless them, they are must be best company in the world.
P.S. - Please don't try to print the plywood :)
Technically you need to get a printer that has a straight paper path and stronger machine that is actually designed for materials this thick, for example OKI CX3641 or Xerox DocuColor 242, there are more. In your machine, paper path constructed with many turns, it turns 90* when exits the paper tray and another 90* when exits the printer, this is the most cardstock unhappy design. In my shop, I have Phaser 7760 that I print paper, it happily runs #80 and 100# text gloss with barely any jams and I have OKI CX3641 that I run cardstock jobs on.
If you need to figure out paper GSM VS pt VS # here is a good article:

Hi there and thanks for the reply i am using 120 gsm grammes per square metre, i don't know how that relates to US CAN but its basically thin glossy or thin card either setting the other stuff i don't use any more is the thick card, i don't bother to try and print that stuff because of jams.

generally what happens is the paper "grabber" takes too muany sheets of paper but only on glossy or silk it has no problem with the normal paper which has no slipperyness to it, the trouble is i need the glossy stuff for brochures.

Hi Nick. Try to experiment a little. You, most likly, have problem with static build up. Make sure that your machine/outlet it is plugged in to is properly grounded, make sure paper you use is suitable for digital print as these papers have less tendency to build up static. Also important- room teperature- if too cold more static, humidity should be within reasonable range. If it is really bad, can of antistatic spray helps a little-available in supermarkets. Also paper grain- try to chage it, if you run long grain, try to get paper that short grain.

    Hi Mr BT,
what is this antistatic spray that i should use and could you recomend some of that paper i am currently using xerox own brand
