I am doing a reproduction art poster about 32 x 40 and I want the best possible quality/ accurate color out of an offset print. I have considered giclee printing but the cost is too high for the amount I want to do (1000)

I would like to know which presses produce the best (consistent) quality for a small run. I understand that many presses are limited to 28x40--if this is a limiting factor as to which presses can be used I will consider a print that size but I would prefer a slightly larger print. I understand this will be just one factor in choosing a printing house however I would like to learn about this factor.

Another question would be--beyond presses, how do I determine which printing house will produce the best quality?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

The 28x40 print size is the size of the press sheet. the size of an actual print will somewhat smaller - deduct for gripper edge, color pars, bleeds/crop marks and the size of the product that you can get will be 27x39... If you need the 32x40 that you'd have to fin'd someone with even larger press which is even less common. Before resolving the who can print best quality situation, most likely you'd need to find a printshop who can print bigger than 28x40, who would be willing to take on 1000 pcs order, than, assuming there will be a choice, you can try to determine who is better. Ask for samples, if possible information about press/pre-press, how clean and organized facility is could give you an idea..
