Hi-
I am in my late 50s with 30 years of pre-press experience in a newspaper environment. I was laid off last March and I've been interviewing for pre-press work in other printing environments with no success. From an employer's point of view, would you say because of my age, I am unlikely to be a desirable candidate? I love pre-press, but I'm wondering if, at this stage of the game, I'm just spinning my wheels and wasting my time?

I REALLY would appreciate any advice!

Thanks

I think determination is important! Only if you make it seem like a big deal to employers will they consider it a front issue. I was able to get my position by learning some of the lingo beforehand, but Ive never worked in printing at all. so I think most employers look for candidates who are observant, not just experience.

Sounds like you have a lot of good advice and wisdom to share! Have you though about becoming an online tutor? Genuine experience is hard to come by. Places like fiverr let you freelance and tutor or get paid to give practical advice. as a former college student I know how even in school there is always a lack of good educational "coaches".

Best of luck!
