We are trying to print an area with some solid black on 12 pt coated stock on a Ryobi 3302. The press lays down the ink well enough, but the delivery wheel/drum leaves some small scratches on the image. The little wheels can not be moved out of the solid image area, as it covers most of the page.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Yes not much you can do. Most people upgrade to a Super Blue cylinder and netting. This replaces the skid wheels in the delivery. Hamada used a type of adhesive paper (almost like fine sandpaper) called ICP or IPC tape. Skinny strip on the wheels narrows the scratches but will not eliminate them. The Super Blue costs a few bucks but well worth the investment if you plan on running a lot of coated work.

  • we have 3 3304's and a 3302 one with super blue one with the plastic ink repelnt sheet the super blue sucks! its better than the star wheels but not by much it is expensive to replace (unless you use regular cheese cloth) and a pain in the butt to put on and clean when it does get dirty. The plastic sheeting is the way to go it lasts a verry long time and is easy to clean it does have a few draw backs but nothing in comparison to the super blue or the star wheels. mater of a fact i modified the super blue cylinder to use the plastic sheets and it made a world of diffrence!

I run a 3304 with supperblue, what is this plastic thing you speak of? I would be keen to look into it.

what I basicaly did is take a anti marking film (the glass bead stuff) like we have on the transfer cylinders and instead of useing super blue I put a sheet of that on the super blue cylinder poof!! problem solved! and I havent changed it in years! I just clean it with blanket wash and sometimes with MRC low VOC if I need something agressive. if i get any kind of marking like on the left hand side of the cylinder by the cam folower and we know how that is I just put a little pice of tape there to get rid of it they do actualy make a cylinder for useing thoes glas bead sheets exclusively but puting that stuff on you have to pull apart half of the delivery and there expensive.

Cmyk, that's interesting. I was thinking you might have used the glass bead transfer sheets. Thanks for the info. I agree Super Blue has it drawbacks but it's better than the cage wheels. I'll give those transfer sheets a try.
