printing a job 2up or more with sequential numbers

I have ajob that i am printing which is 400 tickets all with sequential numbers. i would like to print it 2up so that when i cut the job down i will have 2 piles. the 1st pile will be numbered from 001-200 and the 2nd pile will be numbered 201-400. what software can i use to create the numbers sequentially and 2up. I currently impose all my files in indesign and then export to pdf. the manual solution would be to create 200 pages and manually edit the numbers on each page but this would be tto time cosuming. is there any software that can automate this? or does any digital printer have this in its ripping software standard?
i currently do not own my own digital press and i am currently outsourcing this work to another printer so i dont know the full capabilities of the printer or software they use.
this is just a very basic example. I would like to print jobs with multiple jobs each with varying #-up and starting from different sequential numbers and rotated in diferent ways.
does anyone have a solution?

simple way

ok first start with any spreadsheet software,

1. make 2 columns
2. in the first row of each of the columns write in 111 and 222
3. than from row 2 onwards number it with column 1 going from 001 - 200 and column 2 going from 201 - 400
4. save the file as a tab or comma delimited file (.csv or .txt)
5. Create a new document in indesign the size should be big enough to hold your two tickets
6. place the ticket pdf and impose it manually
7. place an empty text box where you want the numbering (on both tickets)
8. click on the menau Window > Automation (a new panel will pop up)
9. click on the arrow on the new panel that just popped up and select "import" and select the file you saved in step 4
10. after the import complete that panel will have 2 rows "111" and "222"
11. go to the empty text box created in step 7 and double click it so you can type in the text box but instead of typing just click on the "111" from the panel and do the same for the second ticket only this time use "222"
12. on the automation panel click the arrow in the the top right and select "create merged document". another window will pop up just select that you want to merge all records and click ok
13. this will create a new indesign document with 200 pages imposed and numbered
14. export as pdf and print
