Hello, we have a recently bought Polar 76EM, and after a couple of months of working perfectly it started giving an error 83 and we can't find any info anywhere regarding this. Everything works fine after startup, but the moment you press the buttons to engage the knife, it stops and the dispaly flashes 83. Does anyone know what could be the cause and the solution?

Hi,
I believe your machine has no light barriers, right? But the control circuitry had designed to connect a light barrier. So that there is a small device called "light barrier simulator" is connected to the back panel board to simulate the function of the light barrier. It seems you have a problem with it.

You have to remove the back cover under the table and it is on your right hand side lower corner. A small black box. Before do anything, you pull it out and plug back in several times. That way you clean any corrosion on the pins. If that doesn't help, the simulator itself might be damaged. The only way to confirm it to move it to another machine and check it out. It can be any machine in the EM/EMC II series. And if you find it good, then you have a problem with the HK card.

Hope this helps.

  • Hello and thank you for the response. It's an 1986 76em, it has the light barriers. We have taken the light barriers off and tested them on another machine, but they work fine. The machine we tested it on is the one with 99 programs and ours has 9 programs, so i dont know if the circuit boards are compatible for testing.

    ,Hi,
They all are same. If it works fine, then you're good to go.
Since you have already tested the light barriers (with the LS card obviously) then you have to check the cable for the light barrier (plug CU6) If it's fine, then check the HK, IAR and AR cards. And also check the flat wire harness between AR-IAR cards.

    Hope this helps.

We have tested the boards and apparently the IAR board doesn't work. Are there any connections on the board that could be checked if they work or the only solution is a new board?
