Need your professional opinion all.

I have an AB Dick 9850 that I print one color 11x14 restaurant placemats with. My question is, is there a copier you would recommend that could do runs of 10,000 mats affordably. If so.. what do you recommend for the cheapest, even used is fine, .... and... also which is more of a higher end copier capable of affordably doing 10,000 one color mats.

If the finished product is just one color and you run 10,000 why would you want to run it digitally? How often do you run this? Is this the only item you run? Are you a print shop? I guess i am a little confused with what you are looking at doing.

Agreed - what is the objective?

Will you want to change from one color to four color?

Or would a shorter run length be any advantage?

Could custom imprints be an advantage?

If you want to change to digital, you need to take advantage of where digital is strong, and from the sounds of the first post, you are squarely in offset territory doing what should be most economical and fast on offset.

In my book digital can make good sense up to a quantity of 2000 when doing process color. More than 2000 of the same print, and your cost is higher, it will take longer, and what do you gain? Under 2000 although you're running slower (say 1000 to 2000 per hour vs. 5000-10000), you save the waste and time of makeready and the plate costs vs. conventional offset (assuming you don't have the volume for a fully automated offset press.) In a run of 10,000, offset is already cheaper, and with one-color the plate cost/time shouldn't be too much.

And if you are running one color and it's not black, I don't think the result will even look as good because on the copier you'll be changing to process color. At least I don't think there is enough demand to create much if any choice in economical spot colored toner for BW copiers/printers (have not seen it in years.) If black ink only, you could do it and it could make sense if saving labor is a big deal to you, but if you already have offset, I suspect offset can produce higher quality and consistency for a lower or equal price.

My primary business is large format printing (roland 540), however I do design work and layout for placemat advertising salesmen.

The three main things I need to run are, placemats 5000 to 10,000 at a time.
A two sided 11x17 one color document that runs in quantities of 2500

And occasionally one color flyers.
My issues are only time (not alot of it) right now. I wasn't sure if there was something out there that I could get, for example I was looking at a used canon image runner 600.

My hope was to have something that wasn't as messy, but did a good job and was affordable to run. Black toner is fine, as I was going to use different light colored paper.

Would a image runner 600 be something that would do the job in that high of a quantity? Thanks,

the Gestetner 10502. 105 pages a minute also non stop (load paper while it prints). i have done a 15000 a4 run length and it costs an unbelievable 0.002 pence per click. after the 15000 run the toner was still 1/2 full and the toner is about $45. it also has staple mode for up to 100 sheets and hole punching. it is more cheaper than a 1 color press to run. do not go for a canon for long run

I got a few options, but need the specs line out once more for.

How many and what size and weight paper. Duplex? Color?
