1984 Komori Lithrone 26 Feeder problem

Hello all, having a problem with the infeed in the feeder section.
when i stop the feeder manually or its stops due to a double (or more) sheet, it pulls through the paper at the front lays. sometimes thats ok but a lot of the time it folds at the corners and smashes the blankets. also i now have to stop using the feeder pump, it a bit annoying and i sometimes forget.
i have set the timing and eyekom but its still happening.
any ideas?

You have excellent Komori tech guys in ireland , why not bring one over for a look at your problem and sove some blankets & time before you get our guesses from accross the keyboard ????

auto impression

Don't know your problem to be sure as sometimes it takes someone actually being there to understand what it needs to work correctly.

That said, turn off the auto impression and control it manually until you get the problem figured out. It will save your blankets and extra washing of the back cylinders.

I have seen this problem a few times, unfortunately it could be several different things. 1) When the feeder trips the head stop and swing gripper solenoids fire. If they are weak or are full of oil, the trip is delayed and the press can take the sheet. 2) You mentioned checking the timing, you checked the feeder timing to the head stops and also the trip timing? 3) Are your head stops and hooks set correctly? 4) What about your sheet smoothers or hold downs? Does it happen more often with lighter stock?

First I would clean your eyekom sensors, top and bottom. check your wheels and brushes on the tail edge of the sheet when it reaches the headstop. Also as presselectronics mentioned, check your sheet smoothers and hold downs for clearance ( drag on the paper will twist the stock at the last second ) . With the stock folding on the corners, check for curl on the lead edge of your stock. you might try to put a curl down instead of up.

Sounds like the swing gripper solenoid not firing consistently. Give it a good clean and degrease ( its under the feedboard on the bottom right of the machine frame). I think on this model the timings were controlled by a bank of cams and switches under the feeder. These could get dirty and full of paper dust which can affect it. Inch a sheet through and check when the solenoid activates after the machine trips the feeder, check the timing is correct to the manual. If it is late the cam can be moved to adjust the timing but unless you are confident in your ability to do this I would get someone in to have a look.

Put a sheet of paper on the feed board in the front lays. Run the machine witout starting the feeder. If the Swing arm still grips the sheet every time, the solenoid is gone or the bolt has sheared. If it happens randomly check the latching mechanism and spring for wear.

Ok i looked at this today, the solenoid had a wire loose so i rewired it, but it doesnt seem to be working still. no smell or visible signs of it being burned out.
am i right in saying when the feeder trips or i stop it manually the solenoid should activate and pull the lever up to stop the swing arm opening and pulling the sheet?
hopefully its just a matter of replacing the solenoid. awkward spot though

The swing arm and/or head stop solenoids should always be activated unless you are running the feeder.

It was the solenoid after all. Thank you everybody for your contributions especially presselectronics.
It had been rewired before my time and badly, so possibly the solenoid could actually work but I replaced it anyway and wired it properly.
Worked first time, back in action!!!
