washing PR belts?

I've gone through quite a few here lately...no scratches, no gouges, just crazy streaks that I end up chasing all afternoon...which is fuser oil contamination. or so it appears.... I can wipe the cloudiness off of it.

Ive changed a couple.... I don't wanna anymore. last one hit 240k I think?

does anyone here clean theirs? I regularly clean them on the docutechs... but I feel like I tried once and failed on ole Genny?

I remember the good old days when I ran a Xerox 9700 Laser printer that had a Selenium PR Belt. Scratches you could get rid off with an eraser and Fuser oil buildup with Pumice. I have also washed many Docutech PR Belts. Have never tried on an iGen3. We don't have issues with Fuser oil on PR Belt. May have to do with "Low Oil Rate Doctor Blade" that we have been using set at .012 and Fuser Oil #1. Ninety eight percent of the work we do on iGen3 is duplex which is what causes build up.

Get the low rate blade fitted. Washing can work but you could then send 10000 odd sheets through to clean the cleaning residue off. A better way is to run non critical jobs single sided jobs (if you have any!) that don't show or run a toner purge down to 45. The toner coverage will/should clean it up

Im back working with igen3/4 again.

Are you running a silk-coated stock?

We have alot of issues with this, its not fuser oil, but some amonia or something in the stock transfering to the PR BELT, we use car wax to clean the belt instead of changing it.

peels..are you sure that it is not coming from the rollers behind the PR belt..if you do not clean them up nice a new PR belt is useless!!!

You really shouldn't be washing your pr belt with anything.
without seeing the marking your getting its hard to diagnose.
It could be you need to do fuser maintenance. Contamination could
come from stocks produced for indigos as they put a special
coating on the surface which igens don't like. Running dev recovery
usually sorts contamination out.

Yes we run pre-printed stock all the time on the igen4 and fuser oil contamination is normal. It doesn't show up on our prints until we switch to a job with more coverage. I've spent many hours trying to solve this problem. Essentially, you can stop to do maintenance every hour or so cleaning STAB and Cleaner Housing (as the oil travels), wiping down fuser roll and pressure roll as well. Alcohol does the trick, followed by a few thousand cleanup sheets like Milo suggested. Other than that, the belt will hit a point where even maintenance won't help...you just have to toss it. You could save the same belt for when you go back to that same troublesome stock if you wanted to be crazy.

Of course if the problem stock is a high coverage job (where white streaking will be visible), then you have a real problem.
