Trying to identify a part

This is for a Speedmaster 52-2P with CP Tronic. This part which as we all know the parts books read like bad VCR instructions, is failing and I thought on here someone would be able to identify it. It is the air solenoid that engages the front and pull lay, but I have been unable to find it in the parts book. It is sticking and is not always engaging when paper reaches the first unit impression intake grippers. It is located in the drivers side panel between the feeder and first unit. If someone could tell me the proper name and part number I would really appreciate it.

 

Hello Matt, you're going to have to describe your issue a little better because there is no solenoid that engages the front or side lays on on SM52. Front lays are always moving and side lays are engaged/disengaged manually by pushing down and turning the control know 90 degrees on the selected guide. There is a pneumatic piston on the OS, not the DS that engages/disengages the grippers on the transfer gripper, could this be what you are referring to?

 

Shoot I mean operators side that's why I wrote drivers side with an S, haha. Yes this is the solenoid that engages the grippers on the transfer bar when the sheet reaches the infeed. That's a much better way of terming it. I've worked on so many Heidelberg presses we've had over the years I get a bit tongue-tied. I just replaced the display in a Polar cutter myself instead of having a tech come on-site. Not very complex except that the wiring diagram that accompanied that shows the jumper that is now tied to the 5 volt supply is BACKWARDS and has you swap +5V for GND and vice-versa. Discovered that little error myself. Now sharp and bright as new. But yes I'm trying to find that solenoid in the parts book and every time I think I'm close to the page it takes off to a different side and starts on the drive side and I never get back to the right page. Granted I've haven't had a chance to peruse the parts guide(s) forever on this one where I might have found it, but who can stare at the parts manuals forever anyway, haha. Thank you. Any idea where in the book(s) it could be found or any idea a faster way to locate the part number?

I used front/side lay(s) as a reference point at the closest I got in the parts book looked like it was pointing to the bar just next to the solenoid. But at least I came close enough for you to figure it out and for that I thank you wholeheartedly!

 

Alright I will look more closely in the morning for that section. It seemed I was close - but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, ha.
