Guys I would appreciate any help with my GTO 52/4 always leaves 2 sheets in delivery end without completing cycle to exit. Supposed to deliver 9 sheets when I stop production, only delivers 7 with 2 still in press.

What is the age of your press?

I bet I know what you're thinking, Matthew! I'll refrain from answering him, but as we say here in the States, "I'm chomping at the bit" wanting to direct him to the issue :).

Me too, I’m at a loss. Looked for timing disk and etc. haven’t located one yet.

Timing disc? No. Impression sequencing roller switches mounted on brackets surrounding a cam on each impression cylinder. Look for wear at pivoting lever and excessive play of roller on the spindle. There must be one, possibly more, worn out switches which control the impression sequencing.

It doesn’t have to be in impression, just running set up sheets on idol same response.

Is the press clearing the feedboard, not leaving a sheet at the headstops?

All sheets are clearing the feed board, no miss feeds, just doesn’t deliver all the sheets. ALWAYS leaves 2 in delivery end. 1 in chain grippers 1 in #4 tower at impression cylinder grippers.

GTO multicolor presses should always be leaving a sheet at the headstops, I believe you have a front barrier issue. Do your headstops continue to sweep and raise while idling? Are you getting an intermittent hammering noise upon trip off? Is the barrier solenoid functioning?

I’ve ran this press since new install, it has never left a sheet at head stops. The head stops used to continue to sweep, the shop owner had a contractor work on it and when he left the head stops don’t sweep idling but now it continues to leave 2 sheets in press. This contractor was in about a year ago. I am at a loss why shop owner didn’t make sure he fixed the 2 sheet issue. As far as the barrier solenoid if it’s the solenoid under the feed table to the right it does operate. I know there is an adjustable rod connecting there. You think maybe the contractor didn’t adjust it appropriately?

"New install" as in new from factory? Or pre-owned machine? You say about '98...so it's the DDS dampener type machine?

Could be that the operating rod you mentioned isn't adjusted properly, but keep in mind the many components in the whole barrier assembly depend on each other for quite a number of functions...don't change the operating rod length with the thought it will remedy the issue. Sounds like you need service.

This machine was a NEW Heidelberg U.S.A. install. It is with the DDS dampeners. The solenoid that operates the head stops and all that connects with it is what this guy installed. Im thinking he missadjusted it. Got an idea what the specs may be?

Intimately. However, the "specs" are just a recommended starting point for each adjustment, and each adjustment point directly affects another, more so on an older machine, from wear of moving components Simply put, without a degree wheel, arbor and cylinder flag, ya'll are, with all due respect, pissing in the wind.

Thanks Junker1984, I was hoping it could have been a relay or such that could’ve been causing this issue.

    Hello,
There is a timer inside the control cabinet.
You can adjust it very easy.

A timer, Maher? Could you explain? Since this is a '98 model with some electronics I may not be familiar with, I may have been giving out bad info. But during my career, if the GTO presses left sheets in the machine and no sheet on the feedboard it was typically a barrier issue. I humbly await your reply, as I'm sure the original poster. :-(

In GTO machines, there are three yellow timers in the cabinet (one for forward inch, one for backward inch and the third one is for stopping the machine after last sheet leave the feeder)
As you know, there is no IDS in GTO machines, so you have to adjust the time to stop the machine after triggering the missing sheet sensor (it is the same time the lasr sheet leave the feeder) , this time depends on how many printing units in the machine.

Thank you, Maher. If you have a schematic for this model year, would you list the timer designation for the poster?
