What is the proper method for setting delivery gripper tension on GTO52. Gripper tension is uneven and have some delivery problems. New bars installed.

Hey printguy - If you just installed new bars (from Heidelberg?) they should have been jigged up at the factory and ready to go, no question. If you got them from an after market supplier, you got what you paid for. The proper method of setting individual grippers is a bit involved, to do so properly you must jig up the follower lever to a certain dimension and set the far OS gripper, which is taper pinned, to a light drag by bending the gripper, then set the remaining ones by loosening the clamping pieces and shooting once again for a light drag.

make sure you have a new gripper on the first one on the d/side then just set all the rest the same with a nice drag and you wont be far off

Hey printguy, did you get the settings right? While doing the setting, please make sure you use a strip of paper with low grammage like newsprint or tissu paper when setting the individual delivery grippers. Just like mqgpress says, you need to feel a slight drap when you pull the strip of paper. You can achieve this by slightly bending the grippers to have a uniform drag on all the grippers. Hope this helps.

    Set GTO griggers

mqgpress had an old thread on setting GTO 52 grippers.

What is the specific dimension of the lever cam to set. I do recall a measurement of 44mm from from the base of the cam follower to the top of the gripper bar. But that was so many years ago and not even sure if that number is correct at all. Once this distance is set and the fixed gripper is adjusted to hold a sheet of paper, then the others can be set. Critical the distance for cam to gripper bar is set first.

    Any help appreciated.

Hey Guys - dimension from bottom of cam follower to machined surface on end of gripper bar is 30.5 mm. Factory jig is best way to hold this dimension for setting procedure, but lacking that, use your imagination. Once distance is set, roll back all grippers but the far op side (taper pinned) and bend on it until you achieve a light drag. Once this is accomplished, adjust all remaining grippers by rotating towards pad, keep in mind, as you lock up clamping piece, your setting will change...it's a bit/miss procedure!
