Ryobi 3302 IR dryer.

Hi all,

Does anyone know how to troubleshoot Airtech IR dryers, particularly on the Ryobi 3302? I'm not in front of the press at the moment so I'm not sure of the exact model of dryer. It's never worked that great - it would always go on for a few dozen impressions or so, then get "tired" and turn off. After I let it sit for awhile, it would work again. These days, it doesn't work at all. The compressor turns on, but the bulb does not do its thing.

I know of an adjustment that a repair guy showed me, but I think the bulb might just be dead. Does anyone know where I can get an affordable bulb for it, and how to install it? The press is running halfway decent now and that seems to be about the last thing to really pay attention to, at least for now.

Why do you need to turn on the IR lamps?

Uh..my press has an IR dryer. Why wouldn't I want it to work?

It should work but it does not help much in drying the inks.

If your only running halfway decent i would focus on running excellent before messing with things you dont really need. The dryers that come in them aren't that good and end up dying, do you run a lot of coated stock?

I've looked for cheap bulbs before couldn't find any that's why I pulled mine out good luck hunting and if ya find a cheap bulb let me know

hi lantz there is an electric eye that senses the sheet if it gets dirty dryer wont kick on it is located right next to super blue transfer cylinder try to clean with glass cleaner / spikeboy

Clean the sensor on the black box that's behind the dryer. Also the adjustment screw on the op side of that box can be tweaked . The other issue is with the bulb itself,replace the bulb the use the adjustment screw to fine tune the bulbs lenght. (The amount it stays on ). When replacing the bulb be careful the ceramic covers on the wires are in place and that the wires are nit being grounded.

Also I would be careful about the glass cleaner ,the ammonia in some will fog the lense.

Get an electrician to check the voltage of the outlet you are using for the IR dryer. If the voltage is not right (to high or to low) this can cause the unit to overheat. This line should be on its on dedicated breaker separate from the press power supply or anything else for that matter. Also, if the unit has some age on it the housing that holds the lamp also is designed to cool the bulb using air from the pump, make sure your air lines are not clogged or crimped preventing air flow to the lamp housing. I have had to disassemble the lamp housings and clean years of caked up spray powder out which was obstructing air flow causing units to overhead, there is a tube inside the unit with air holes that can also get plugged up obstructing air flow. As far as bulbs try this place http://www.caprockdev.com/airtech_ir_lamps.htm which is where I buy replacement bulbs (just keep the old one as you will need the ceramic ends and possibly new connectors. If your unit still overheats even with proper voltage and air flow try partsnpowder.com. These guys used to work for AirTech before it closed down and they now supply parts and can even repair/rebuild your unit.
