Polar 66 No Boot

So I've got a Polar 66 that one day when we came in in the morning, it just will not boot up. When you turn the main power switch on, the display lights up and immediately displays the Polar logo. It stays like that forever and will not do anything at all. No error messages, no beeps, nothing. I've tested all buttons on the touch pad with a multi-meter, non are "pressed". I've re-seated all boards and connections. My guess is that a board might be bad. My guess is the one in the middle (SK66 250586/040181). Can anyone confirm this or have any other ideas? Maybe which board could be the only one that could cause this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi!

It is for sure not a broken SK board. The board SK is just controlling the cut sequence.
Let us start from the beginning.
Let’s assume you have a 66 with a 5.5” monochrome display made before 2012.
When you switch on the machine the key board should give you one beep. If you do not have this beep the computer inside the keyboard will not start and the display will not work.
The first check would be the power supply. At the keyboard you have a green plug X500. If you measure between pin 1 and pin 4 you have to have 5.05 to 5.15 Volt d. c.
At the keyboard you have as well a green LED named V1 this LED should flash with a sequence of 1 Hz.

  • Hi Coloured Paper,

    Thank you for your response.
When I switch machine on, I get 1 beep, then it displays the Polar logo. I do have the green LED flashing (it is labeled Aktiv), red is solid and "test" LED is not lit. I measured voltage at the keyboard, it was 4.98 vdc. I then adjusted voltage on the power supply, I now have 5.15 vdc. Still the same problem, just stays on the Polar logo and will not boot beyond that.

The Next step is the communication between the keyboard computer and the board CP in the electric cabinet.
Therefor the machine has a small cable from the little flat green plug X503 at the keyboard to the upper connector X3 at the front side of the board CP (right board).
If the cable is okay you may change the keyboard of the CP board. I would start with the keyboard.

The cable tested good. I notice that the board CP that you spoke of has a 3.6v battery onboard. This battery is reading 0.5v. Could this cause my issue? I replaced the keyboard about 1 year ago.

If the battery is off, the CP board is losing all memorized information’s. The cutting programm’s are gone, every morning you have to do a reference run, etc.
But the machine works (after all initialization) like it should. After switching off, all memory is gone again and it starts from the beginning.
In other words it is not the battery.

The battery should have at least 3 V d. c.
A normal electrician cannot solder the cable to a battery. The temperature would be much too hot.

PS.: Is the keyboard still under warranty? Where do got it from?

I figured that was the case, I guess I'm just digging for an inexpensive fix.
I will check into the warranty tomorrow, we did not buy direct from Hiedelberg. I believe it may have been a refurbished board. We purchased it from DEMERS PARTS INTERNATIONAL. They are an aftermarket Polar supplier.

Well at least we got it narrowed down to one of the two boards. Thank you for all of your help!

    Hi Sir

    You Have 2 option:

    1) Baumfolder in USA.
    2) Polar Moht in Germany.

  • can i find somewhere booth file to reinstall in board? i can do this by myself.

    No sir:
Only if you have some friend or colleagues.

The best idea, is NOT waste time, go the company, that i did mentioned before.
