My Igen has been eating them....scratching them, to be more exact. I have been finding a hair hanging from the top of the cabinet each time. :) Thought that was it again...... NOPE! cleaned EVERYTHING today, and changed PR belt...MISSING STREAK OF PRINT STILL THERE!!!

not sure what the part is, but it is directly below the cleaning brushes. looks like spacers...kinda like two layers of steel plates that go all the way across. anyways, they have electrical tape wrapping around them, it got brittle, and is peeling off, rubbing the belt.

Hope it was ok to tear some off.

Guess This is FYI for everyone to have a quick look....

oh, and since someone mentioned naming their machines. I think Mine shall now be called "Iggy" :cool:
 
Iggy as in Pop? Could there be another old school rocker in this forum?

    Lol, when i run silk-coated stock it can do about 3-6k SRA3 prints, depending on the toner coverage, then i have to change the PR belt because something is getting on the belt, we have found a way to clean it off, car wax :) But still a fair guess would be we use about 4-5 PR belts a week..
     
    btw, i think you are refering to the magnets sitting below the brushes.

    yeah they look like magnets, just wasn't sure of their function.....


    and, you clean the belt with car polish? LOL that's awesome! please tell me you say "left-a-circle...right-a-circle, wax on, wax off" when you are doing it!

    note: I would do that when training operators on the docuprints, you clean those belts often with alcohol... I got a few eyebrows raised at me, then realizing the people I am training are in their early 20's, and have ZERO clue what the reference is LOL

    I am in the early 20's as well, but i have seen karate kid a few times ;-) Its impossible not to send a thought to dear mr miyagi while polishing.
     
    First off, and most importantly might I add, anyone who doesn't know karate kid can GTFO. If I made a joke like that and some kid didn't get it, I'd be like "I don't think the igen is for you, maybe you wanna try getting a job at baby gap or toys 'r us or something."

    Secondly, on to your question, the "bead magnet" collects any excess toner that the cleaning blade missed...to keep the belt nice and pretty. Every couple of weeks it is important to clean the magnet. In one motion, take a fiberless wipe and push the toner from IB-to-OB. Then just catch it when it reaches the OB edge. Repeat as necessary. Toner can build up to the point where it touches the belt, and can cause scratches and affect print quality. The coating on the magnet in my machine has gotten brittle as well, and like you, I just broke off any part that was sticking out. I wouldn't think this would be a problem, but I'm not 100% on that.

    Neess, car wax on a PR Belt? LOL...that's a new one! Generally, I wouldn't think the PR Belt should ever get dirty. If toner is getting on the belt, the cleaning blade should take care of it. It is normal for toner to collect around the seam of the belt and that can easily be wiped off. Xerox says the life of a PR belt is around 1.2 million impressions. We get 600-800K clicks on it. Xerox is also quite strict over here in Rochester. If we went through too many belts in a short time they would complain. Give us the "it costs $800 per belt" routine.

    I dont think Neess is saying toner gets on there....probably residue from paper...
     
    If we dont wax the belt we have to replace it. Because we are a very large xerox customer we have a on-site technician who found out we could overcome replacing pr belts all the time by cleaning them.
    Its a bit of a struggle between our company and xerox, as we dont think the paper has changed but the pr belt/cleaning has. Xerox on the other hand think its the paper(of cause)

    Silk stocks are really not recommended for the Igen. The are very abrasive and are created from finely crushed gravel. Silk stocks may also have problems with Toner adhering to it as well. Some silks work better than others.
