New owner of DC12 Without RIP (Need Help)

First of all, hello everybody.

Came across this forum while trying to research for more info regarding the DC12 and thought maybe I could get some professional answers from users.

I have just purchased (need to pick up) a Xerox Docucolor 12 that comes without an RIP. Being the noob that I am, I didn't think about this until the time came and here I am now in the search of a solution.

The seller of the printer sold the RIP separately, which I wish I knew beforehand, but I wasn't to know I'd win the printer anyway, so I kinda took the gamble. The original RIP was a Splash G640 which was hardware based Mac G4 System, which you most probably know already.

So now I'm looking for a solution if anyone could help.

Some options that could be possible....
I own a Mac Pro > Could I install a RIP Package from this and run the DC12?
Could I purchase a G4 and install Splash G640 Myself?

To be honest my budget is very low and the few RIP's for the DC12 on eBay and such are way over my price range.

Would really appreciate some help and clarification on this matter.

Watch ebay for a used Fiery X12 or Splash 630 etc. that is compatible with the doc 12. I would be very wary of buying a printer on ebay due to the fact that troubleshooting a print quality problem can be very expensive. But a rip if guaranteed not to be DOA is less risky - it either works or doesn't. Sometimes one that comes up without costing an arm and a leg.

I suspect the rip software will be hardware locked and don't think you can simply install it on a normal computer (otherwise people wouldn't pay so much $,$$$ for very expensive rip hardware upgrades!) I've never actually tried anything like this as people said it wouldn't work, so please correct me if you give it a go and find out differently.
