I currently use an ABDick DPM 2000s platemaker. It's been a good reliable machine but technology has moved forward leaving me in what will soon be a difficult position. I have one "old" computer that will talk to the platemaker and I fear it will soon need to go to the "bones" pile.
I am just a small one woman shop and don't want to spend an arm and a leg for another system. I'm wondering if anyone of you have used the Genie Jet system with the Epson wide format printers. I need to make plates for a Hamada 600 and an AB Dick 360. I'm not too worried about speed but want a good quality plate for good quality prints including half tones. I do mainly 1 and 2 color work...no process work in house. I've tried the laser plates in the past and am not impressed with how those hold up. Most of my jobs are in the range of 500 to 5000 pieces.
Will the inkjet plates produce a true dot or does it produce a stochastic screen? Are the ink jet plates poly or metal? Is baking necessary? Approximate cost to produce a plate? Can the printer also be used for printing full color work, i.e. banners, signage, window perf?
I truly appreciate any and all input.
