looking to buy Heidelberg.Difference between SPEEDMASTER, QUICKMASTER AND PRINTMASTER

Hi. My company is looking at purchasing a heidelberg 74 very soon. Before i can jump the gun , i need to know the difference between SM, QM and PM. Also which water system is good? Alcolor, VARN or kompac ? If anyone knows of someone that sells this type of machine please let me know. We are looking at investing in a good second hand machine. Thank you

The differences are related to the automation. We do not make the QM line any longer which was a small format (46cm) machine. The PM74 has some automation but nowhere near as much as the SM74. Heidelberg discontinued the PM74 in 2008 mainly because the price difference between what you could buy an SM74 for and the 20% increase in production the SM74 was capable of over the PM74 due to it's automation was not that extreme. Most people went with the SM74.

Both are good machines depending on your application. If you are a one shift shop with running 2 or 3 jobs a day the PM74 would be a good machine to consider. If you run more than one shift and are doing multiple make-readys each day the SM74 would be what you are looking for due to its quicker make-ready times and less waste during them.

Being as I am only familiar with the Alcolor / Vario dampening system Heidelberg has on the equipment I would have to suggest it. : )

The PM 74 is a low pile press, while the SM 74 is a high pile.

Can any one tell me about Heidelbergs anicolor printing machine. How is the performance and quality compared to the conventional one.

Speedmaster= Heidelbergs top end machine. XL162, XL145, XL106, SM102, CX102, XL75 and SM52 come in the speedmaster line. Almost everything is fully automated.

Printmaster= Not sure if Heidelberg still makes this line but it used to come in PM74 and PM52. Very little if any automation on the machine.

Quickmaster= Heidelberg made three types of this machine. QMDI, Quickmaster 2 color and Quickmaster single color. High end duplicator.

Griznarf is not correct. SM74 comes in both low and high pile versions. PM 74 only came in low pile versions.

Anicolor=Basically zoneless inking technology. Uses an anilux roller and chamber blade for inking rather than an inking unit. Very usefull for quick run prossess work.

In addition to this, it is mainly to cater to customers who want quick runs and want equal or better quality than digital with cost advantages of offset. Basically for the press owners its the quicker turnaround, multiple jobs a day press. Not aimed for long runs thought it can do those beautifully. Also to note is the slight learning curve associated with running this press, though the advantages or consistency and changeovers (lesser wastage) are great.
