Ikon CPP 650

We have been using the 650 for over a year. The first six months were very trying because we were one of the few companies that had the 650 model in are area. So the techs were not trained yet on the machine or its features. We had a few problems with our computers talking to the creo and getting the jobs to process. That was one of the first things we noticed, the second thing is once a duplex job was registered after about 15 copies the image would jump on the backside. Then about a week later all single sided jobs running face down would jump on the rear edge about a quarter of a inch along with duplex jobs. So after we had about every tech in the area look at it finally come to find out the board was bad. Then a month later the mother board in the p.c. went out. Then about four months after that the board in the 650 went out again. The treys tend to break down once a month. Most heavy stock only prints out of trey 3 and 5 consistently. Noticed trey 4 had alot of problems with keeping registered and not jamming while in transfer. If you dont set the paper weight and speed correctly you will be fighting with registering all day. Keep C. Wires clean constantly keeps streaking. Oh and last week we had another board go bad so that makes three, are tech said we were the only one in the country that this has happened to? Would like to know if anyone else has experienced these problems.

Ikon CPP650

We have had the Ikon CPP650 for a year as well. We have had problems from the day that they assembled it. We print full color on heavy stock and we currently average about 3-4 service calls a week with no clear resolutions in near sight. We experience an enormous amount of paper & time loss due to image shifting and paper sque-ing, which makes running a two sided job a never-ending nightmare. I would like to know of others who feel that Ikon pulled the rug out from under them and ran.

They also told us that they had no clue as to why we were having this problem and went on to say that our problem was an isolated one. This couldn't be farther from the truth. There was a company in my city that, I might add, is no longer in business that did the same exact business as we do and experienced the same exact problems. My company has retained counsel and are currently in litigation. We are interested in hearing from others that have had a similiar experience with the Ikon CPP650. Together, we can form a mighty fist.

New to this forum but I've encountered many of the issues you seem to be facing.

First we installed the first CCP650 in the Carolinas and went through the usual learning curve with the service techs. We made 2 demands of Ikon and one concession that have paid great dividends for us.

First was we insisted on a new Tech. We talked with some of the B/W techs about the color guys and figured out who had the highest part replacement ratio in that department. That was the guy we wanted cause his personal view was replace the part instead of limp it along. Not the best thing for Ikon but it worked for us. We now only allow 2 techs to work on our machine. One is the head of the color team and the other is our regular tech. Both are intimately familiar with our application and know how demanding we are prepared to be. Its made a huge difference.

2nd was the modifacation of a few parts inside the machine to help with registration. One was a transfer plate, Konica changed it but older 650's didn't have it so it had to be retrofitted. The other was an improvised improvement to the guides in the high capacity trays. We isolated that 90% of the skew issues we had were related to inconsistent feeding from the decks. We installed some firmer guide hardware that our tech came up with and its solved a huge number of our registration issues.

What we had to change was our paper. We were running a 10pt Kromekote. We switched to a 12pt Carolina Coated. The Kromekote cast coating was actually rubbing off on the cylinders in the machine and cause some extreme wear on the parts, bad feeding and overall poor image quality. We experimented with the Carolina Coated because it uses a much stiffer sheet with less coating. The difference was huge. Our jams and color issues vanished. Any remaining registration issues were easily resolved in the fiery image adjustments and the machine just ran better. We went from daily service calls to 3-4 per month.

Now I am looking forward to adding a 2nd and 3rd unit as we continue to grow and I am very excited about the HC unit. I won't be working with Ikon for other reasons but overall I've been nothing but impressed with this box.

Could you be more specific about the improvement to the guides? They are pretty stout already, just wondering what would make a 90% improvement...

Wow! hate to hear that yall had such bad luck with your 650s, We have two of them (1 CPP, 1BPP) and havent had any major problems and were coming up on 3million clicks. As far as the coated paper causing problems with the fuser, Ive always been told to avoid offset coated papers. Only use color copier (digital papers) as far as coated papers. The coating on offset coated papers will destroy those fuser rollers. The starch they use in digital papers are friendly though.

We also have a CPP 650 purchased in Aug 2007.There was a recall on the drum units.It took ten months for them to be redisigned and installed.We continue to have major problems.Ikon doesn't care.How did your problems work out??

You are not the only one, they told us the same thing.We bought our CPP 650 in Aug 2007 and were never told about the recall at that time.We had problems from the first day also, ten months it took to get the redesigned drums from Japan.How could they sell this printer knowing what they knew?? I can't get an answer from anyone, it sounds like fraud to me!

Yes it would.When we bought our printer CPP 650 they said nothing until we had so many problems that we asked them to replace it.The tech then told us about the recall.Ikon couldn't have cared less, they knew we were stuck.We are a small family run business and at the end of our financial rope.Ikon needs to be taken down a few pegs.I have a copy of the "confidential" in house recall that they says doesn't exist.I would be glad to send you a copy.I would like details on that lawsuit also.

Actually we have a Oce CS650 which also is a rebranded KM BIZHUB engine and I had the cleaning blade flipping drum issues for a frustrating 2 months,
Oce really tried to be pro-active on the issue which really helped (I had 3 sets of drums on hand) keep me running until they resolved the issue.

I really don't care for IKON as they love to undercut In-plants (with facilities management) and there service history.

Might be time for you to look into some different options.

The Ikon CPP 650 was a Konica Minolta Bixhub c6500,think they are the same thing? I have never heard of a Oce.We still have two years on our lease so we are stuck.I can't believe that what they did is legal.How do you sell something to someone knowing there is a recall? Then lie about it, fix it and expect no reprecutions?Someone out there has to have filed a complaint somewhere.
