Diamond P7-13 2 colour press issues

Does anyone have any service information on a Diamond P7-13 2 colour press? Looks like I have inherited servicing three of these and there is no information on them.
The main issue I have is one of them when there is a missed sheet the impression does not always come off and the following sheets get printed on the back. What is the disc for that is behind the hand wheel and how do you set it up?

I have a P7-18 that has had this issue. I have an operators manual, no service manual. The operators manual does briefly touch on setting up the press but no specifics on timing or problems as you
describe. I have a mechanical background and was able to figure out a lot of issues myself. If you see my reply to you and still need help you can contact me here in this forum. I would still like to know what happened to all the techs that used to service these machines. I bought my machine about 2 1/2 years ago with no regrets. Its a great machine.

  • Hello Mech100, I also am a mechanic/ millright. I have figured out most of the issues. What I see the most probable cause is the sensors are either not hooked up or to me are in the wrong place. I moved the missed sheet detector which is close to the cylinders farther away and the impression comes off sooner but still catches the back of the sheet the odd time.

I wanted to check my machine before I responded to you moving the sensors which on my machine are not movable. Only the jam detectors are adjustable and that being adjustable for thickness only. The two sensors at the aligning area I believe are first the mode sensor and or tail edge sensor (depending on mode) the second sensor being the impression and counter switch. I will explain that the Press I bought came with the first switch disconnected at the PLC so I am not totally certain but I believe that looking at the operation of the press. Timing the press begins with the vacuum cylinder. This timing is set by the cam disc that is to the left of the hand wheel held on with three cap screws. Clockwise to advance and counter to retard. Put paper in feeder and use jog to feed paper to the pushers. Timing is correct when tail edge of sheet is fed beyond incoming pushers no more than 2 inches. Too much dwell time in aligning area is not good. Get to know this operation because you will need to do this every time you change sheet size. This part of general setup. Second part of timing is the carrier chains to the impression cylinder. This setting is not going to change often. Start by feeding a sheet (11 inch length) using jog to feed paper into impression and blanket cylinders and watching the sheet exit. What you are looking for is where the gap of the impression cylinder blanket is ending. Unlock the impression cylinder from the gear side till you see the sheet drop out then you see the gap of the blanket. Set blanket cylinder to match impression cyl. Set plate cyl. to match blanket cyl.You can see this better if you put machine on manual impression.
If you need more info please let me know.

We have a P7-13 and in dire need of a software disc. Our machine was down for quite a while, the PLC lost all power and we lost the ability to restart without the back-up disc.
Does anyone know where I can get a copy?

    Hello Griznarf,
Did you ever get your hands on a service manual for this press? Not sure if you still have your press but I am having an issues with my impressions not holding steady and jumping around. Have you had any issues with this at all?

    Best Regards,

Every other envelope that runs through the press, the image/impression moves about 1/4 of an inch up or down. My guys are telling me it could be the feeder, the way the teeth are grabbing it but we arent sure.

  • Sounds like the chain lugs (pushers) are out of alignment on the Diamond. Bring one set of lugs to the beginning of the feeder. Make a mark or tape where they start. Without moving the chain, mark the second set of lugs which are closer to the cylinder. Once you have done that, now turn the press by hand until the first set of lugs line up with the second mark. Look at the beginning and see where the next set of lugs line up. Go through all the lugs and see if they are all the same. If not the lugs need to be moved.
