Adding insert from separate file

This one might be simpler to one who received all training..

I've got a booklet to do, with a VERY high res cover, and B&w body. It was suggested that I run them separately, and hand collate. only 200 or so booklets...but still.... I would VERY MUCH like to NOT do that.

I want to do it on different shinier stock too...

Can that be done on the freeflow front end with two separate pdf's? I feel like I read that somewhere... think I'll poke around the manual....

or can that be done in a pdf itself? we did it with vdx files for Kodak I remember.. "cover, body and Insert" but that was through GMC....

You should be able to make an "exeption page" with for example page 1-2(duplex) on a other stock than the rest, however another stock might affect the fusing and therefore cause waiting time between each page.

we get around this by lying to the front end, and saying both are the same weight, a middle of the road setting

cancel this thread... I have since found out the cover is a different size paper...and I wont have the two files at the same time

Combine the Pdf's

My advice to you peels is to combine both the pdf's into one file if possible.

However, if the cover is a spread and the guts are singles this may cause you problems on Freeflow. My advice would be to seperate the cover into singles and then merge them into the guts PDF(be sure the order is correct). You may need your prepress department to assist you in this.Then you should be good to go.

The stock must be the same size. My advice would be to have the different size stock cut to match the gut stock if this is possible. Sometimes covers may be a different size for a couple different reasons but most of the time they are the same size as the guts.

If you don't get the files at the same time wait until you have them both. They can't do any finishing without the cover so printing the guts to wait on the cover won't do you any good.

on freeflow, can you tell a PDF that one page is a different drawer?
