A colour printer not requiring constant use.

I have a DCP-J132W All-in-One Inkjet Printer + Wireless but not having used it for two years killed it. As a result I'm looking to replace it but need to know what sort of colour printer do I need that can stand not being used for long periods.

 

There are only 2 basic types that I know of unless some else has surfaced, the other is Laser.
Why so long of non use??
