  1. Man Roland? Miehle?

Does anyone run a Man Roland or Miehle press? Can we have a forum for us too?
  2. Hickies

Hickey picker rollers are a good thing to have on hand. Roto-Dyne does ours and we don't have any problems with them.
  3. Chill Roll Optimum Temperatures Heat-Set Web

How many colors are you running? In my experience keeping the chills between 55 and 65 degrees is ideal.
  4. process Density and Dot gain questions

I usually zero out for each job, just so my starting point is the same. Let me know how everything works out.
  5. process Density and Dot gain questions

Sequence depends on ink tack. I have always run KCMY, black being down first, and haven't had any problems. As for densities: K - 1.90, C - 1.30, M - 1.30, Y-.90. Now those are just starting points. Adjust as necessary for your inks, paper and press. Ink densities on offset paper will be higher...
  6. sheetfed vs. web press

Where a web press loses against a sheet-fed is waste. I have run both web and sheet-fed so I can see the difference. Where I could make-ready a job on a sheet-fed in 300-500 sheets, on a web sometimes it takes 2000-4000 impressions to get everything settled down.
  7. 2-color presses for process color work

If you run 4 color on a 2 color press and simply shoot for consistent densities, then it shouldn't be too horrible. Be sure to take the time to run some tests and see which densities produce the color you want. I used to run 4 color on a 2 color Heidelberg MOZ-P and as long as I ran the colors...
  8. How many Form Rollers needed for quality solids?

I'd say at least three but four would be better. If your running black run a double bump and you shouldn't have any problem with coverage.
  9. Registration, gripper changes, common impression cylinder

Yes. I used to run 4 color on a 2 color Hamada with one impression cylinder. The registration was fantastic. It's also one less impression cylinder you need to clean and maintain throughout the life of the press.
