I HATE iGENS

FYI. as far as xerox equipment goes....Igen is not bottom of the list at least.

the highlight color machines (sorento) are absolute boxes of decaying fecal matter. so be thankful it isn't that.

Yeah we have an old iGen 3 and it sucks b*lls. We also have a Doc 6180 and a Highlight Color 180 (Xerox) and I can't wrap my head around how either of those machines work at all. I've been in the print game for about 3 yrs and my hatred for the game has increased dramatically as time goes on - I hate to be the one to be so negative, usually not, but lately its been ridiculous. Luckily I have a backup plan in the Welding game. Hats off to you kick @ss operators who can push through it. I'm throwing in the towel -

I dont know what are you doing with the igens but its a great machine we have a Igen 4 and its a good one, have a few deficients but i will never change my igen by a indigo or other semi digital prints

I think much comes down to the skill of the operator, the conditions put on him, and picking the right machine for the job.

Many of us who are producing good work every day on far inferior machines would love to have an iGen.

Im operator on a igen3 for the 5th years, we had 2 igen3's untill a few months ago and yes they can be a pain in the ***, but what i really like is the many things you as operator can do to fix faults. We got a CP800 wich i cant do nothing about if it breaks down or some quality issues.
We just bought 2 HP indigos so im looking forward to learn them as well

However, igen is light years ahead of that piece of dog$*it highlight color abomination(we have 3, only 2 work), and on a whole new plane.... Igen does require patience, which I find myself lacking alot.. but that is due to "conditions put on" operator as xfactor mentioned.... it is life for the market I am in. everything is a hair on fire emergency....and nobody pays attention to the 30 days it runs no problem, they only see the day (like today) where it falls on its face LOL

We had an older iGen4 and it was a headache to put it politely. Then we got a new igen 4 with the matte toner and in the beginning it was a pain in the *** and down all of the time. But now it seems to be running like a champ. God I hope I didnt curse myself.

I just think some machines have more problems then others. I was down 3 days a week with my last machine and now the only time my tech comes in is to replace tab blades and do fuser maintenance.

I understand how frustrating they can be and this industry doesnt make dealing with it any better with everything being a rush and so unorganized.

I feel your pain. I hope it gets better.

We just got rid of our iGen4 which was a pain in the *** at times, but we had the high ups come in and basically rip it down and rebuild it back to it's glory and it ran great after that. The tech's will try to cut corners in order to make bonuses and such which sucks, but ah well.

We just upgraded to an iGen 150. Such a nice machine, seems alot faster than our 4 was as well the matte toner is great. And the 26 inch sheet size is a huge plus, but at the same time a pain cause 26x14 80# text is sooo flimsy.

I've dealt with a few different Xerox machines but I really, really like the iGen and when you get to understand it's workings the pains go away I find.

I have a love/hate relationship with our Igen3. I operate 4 Nuvera EA 120 and a Igen3 on the side. The Igen3 is a awesome machine and I agree it comes down to how good the operator is. I document all the errors and fault codes and have found little things to keep it running.

But we never make the required amount of prints and usually it is all delicate work I get handed when the Igen hasn't been printing for a couple of days. There are times I change developer every week because our toner is not in contract.

Now I just heard they will be upgrading our Igen3 to a Igen4 in January.

Let's see how it goes. I will be posting updates to the first 6 months of my relationship with my new toy. Let's hope the love doesn't go away

Oh yeah... for everyone who was wondering...
We had one of the oldest iGen 3s in LA's South Bay. Very used and abused.

@ peels: Yeah when $#!t hits the fan, you do (I do) forget about the long stretch of tech free days. When I started this post it was one of those weeks where all my Docutechs, our 700 and 260 were being brats. Those days pass but suck large monkey b@lls at the time. So I'll leave you guys with that.

Welcome to the 150 club, we got ours installed just about 2 months ago. 1st in Western Canada, which is a blessing and a curse. Blessing cause we have an advantage over alot of companies which still run iGen3's, I think we were the only shop here to have a iGen4, and a curse because it's a learning process for everyone.

We've had some semi major issues already, most have been dealt with, Poly printing is still a big one though.

The most notable was 14x26 Cover having marks from a plate under the fuser, where the timing caused it to slightly buckle and hit these teeth leaving small imprints. The tech altered the timing, and have not seen the issue since.

The next issue was the TAB blade basically assembly, where the arm that opens and closes, should be able to do it smoothly, but was seized pretty good and would snap open and closed, causing the timing to be all out of wack and having the blade scrape off the patches in between the actual prints, causing the final print to look filthy.

Otherwise it's been great, color is great, quality is great, and it seems way faster than my 4 was.

There still is a few other minor issues with edge deletion (which cannot be fixed with image shift or border cropping), still trying to figure this one out.

As well I have skewing issues on some text weight stocks on bigger sizes.

All and all though, I like it.
