Metalics emulsifying, but only on one side

When I run gold first down, it emulsifies after about 10,000 imps, and always creeps in from the gear side. roller setting?

Yep check your dampers then inkers. Also minimum damp and dont load the ink. If a low turn over run a tape on front plate edge if cuts off afterwards.

however 10.000 imps is not bad iwould rinse rollers at least once on arun more than 10 .000

Apply a strip of 50/60mm brown packaging tape along the front edge of the plate below your trim marks down over the front edge bend in the plate, or run a strip up the side youre getting emulsification.

as someone mentioned minimum water and non intergrated. I also like to whenever possible take one step up in the pms book. For example if your printing a pms 872 gold i look to run pms 873. The 873 will allow you to get the richness without having to run such a thick ink film which in turn leads to scumming and emulsification issues. Ive always found it very difficult over the course of a longer run to match the pms book with a single hit of any metallic ink. You need to remember that pms books are printed dry offset and neednt contend with the scumming issues we all deal with on a press running water. A little water repellant varnish or body gum added to the ink will also help in many cases.

Well thanks for all the good ideas, I now have some tricks to try next time I run gold (yes usualy 872) never heard of putting tape on a plate unless the plate was cracked, but sounds like it's worth a shot. I like the idea of running 873 inplace of 872, as we run 872 alot, most runs seem to be around 50,000 imps (@6500 sph it's painful lol)

Ug.... I cant stand running 873 gold hah. Same thing though that the other posters brought out in keeping dampening to a minimum. The water window in that ink is very tight. We actually start the job with almost no dampening feed and bring it up as soon as we see catch-up, just to make sure it doesn't over-emulsify. Seems like once it over-emulsifies, it is never right after that for the whole run!
