Hi we are looking at replacing our SM74 5LX with one of the above, either a late 2007 CD or a 2008 XL, does the XL warrant the extra £70-£100,000 price tag, I would like to know if the CD will makeready + run in similar times as the XL?

We do a wide variety of work on stocks from 100gsm silk up to 600 micron board, mostly short run.

We would have axis control on the CD, not sure if the XL has a different system?

    thanks

    Andy

The XL is far more superior as compared to a CD in terms of performance and reliability.

    Hi
I had the heidelberg colour specialist out and he told me our late 2007 cd. Was more or less identical to the xl 75 apart from the extra cm width
If the cd has the xl delivery and feeder then there's not a huge difference
I know we have issues with regard to the landing issues but I know printers in South Wales who have similar issues on the xl

CD74 and XL75 are virtually the same machine with a few minor differences to delivery and feeder to allow for 18kiph. The XL75 also could have inpress control instead of axis control. Inpress is on the fly ink control. There is a sensor that moves laterally across the last impression cylinder to read ink density. I would compare impression count on the two machines you are looking at.

Talking from the maintenance and reliability point of view I personally feel XL is more robust as compared to CD, however in the end it all comes down to how you maintain the press and what kind of environment it operates in, I have seen CD's with over 300 million impressions and still running as smooth as ever.

Thanks for the replies, the presses we are looking at are both below 60 million impressions and axis controls, we are leaning towards the XL.

On another subject does using the inkline system save money on ink costs?

    Thanks.

Not sure how much money it will save you, but ink in the fountains is just one more thing you wont have to monitor. Ink levels are automatically monitored to a predetermined setting. Inkline will sweep the fountains and dispense ink in areas where it is below the predetermined setting. Because of this, less ink will be needed in the fountain at a given time possibly reducing ink waste when cleaning up machine.
