Hi everyone!
I want to invest in a printing equipment, and I've seen 2 machines that are alike, Workcentre 7556 and Docucolor 250. I've asking here in Mexico, and nobody has explained to me the main difference(s) between these two except for the price.
The question is, in your experience what is the difference for cost per printed sheet, speed, printing quality, etc.
I'd really appreciate your help in this matter, thanks in advance.

The chassis - engine should be the same, I would imagine that most difference will be in electronics and the way machine is programmed to work. DC will have a better RIP that alone will make a huge difference if you are in printing business. Workcentre are usually oriented to be office machines so considering that engine is about the same, it should be just as durable as far as amount of clicks it could achieve. It could be downgraded to have a lower resolution and handle thinner stock. Google "Workcentre 7556 brochure" and "Docucolor 250" brochure, read specs carefully and compare one to another also form xerox website pull the information about life length of drums and fuser, toner yield. It could be that DC has extra capacity toners that offer a better value where WC being offered with standard capacity toner only....

  • I gather you are buying them used based on you looking at the older model 250. If you're buying used, go for the docucolor. The difference in price is minimal compared to your consumable costs to run the machine.

The only difference between the two is the RIP on the back. The DC250 should have the Fiery or the Creo, whilst the 7655 has the Xerox Cobra RIP. All of the consumables like toners, drums & fusers are all the same.

I have run both here in our print department and I have to say there is little, if any, difference between the two in terms of colour. The Fiery and Creo give you lots of options to play with including the ability to effect the colour curves etc, but all said, they will both do the same job.

The 7655 range was designed for the office environment so it can trip up on large PDF files.. but I am talking 1GB + .. To date we have had no problems with it so don't be put off by what some dealers will say.. the 7655 is better value for money too.

Thank you all, the information you are providing me will help me to make a better decision.

Xantair, I'm very interested in your post. Now you have the oportunity to work with both of the equipments, I'd like to ask you some things:
    1. You mentioned the worcentre 7655, but the printer i can get here is the 7556, i checked out the Xerox website and they said the 7556 it's the replacement of the 7655, have you work with it?
    2. I'm worried about the resolution(small text, or images) of the 7655 more than the difference in color, in your experience is there a big difference with the 250?
    3. Have you compered the cost per printed sheet between the 2 printers?
    Thanks in advance!
