Xerox 7125 Cartridge Error

Typical situation: just about to do a largish print run on a Xerox Workcentre 7125; check the supplies menu and Magenta is at only 3%. No problem I've got C, M and Y cartridges unopened in their boxes. Unwrap a magenta one, shake it a bit, put it in place. "Cartridge Error"! Removed it, firmly put it back in. Same result. Remove it, weighed it in my hand and it is heavier than the 3% one. It's a genuine Xerox cartridge just out of the box. Yes, it's pretty old stock from 2013 (we don't print much.) Replace the old cartridge and it says 3% so the cartridge chip reader must be working. Cleaned the contacts on the new cartridge - same result. Powered off and on - same result. Starting to think I've got a dud cartridge. Just in case I try the C and Y ones. Same result!

People elsewhere have suggested that I should ensure that the (white) circular wheel at the end of the cartridge can be rotated by fingers alone, i.e. it's not stuck, and it can in all three new cartridges.

I have managed to carefully pull back the outer and inner protective covers and I can see toner moving around inside.

As I need to do this print run in the next couple of weeks I'm probably going to have to buy new C,M and Y cartridges (possible third party compatibles) in the hope that new stock will work, unless someone here can help out with some clues as to what else Cartridge Error might mean and if it can be solved

Go on Ebay and order a set of toner chips for your printer model. As far as I believe - no tools needed to replace those, may be just a tiny flat screwdriver to release the lock that holds the chip. If Xerox had added a time stamp and expiration date to the chip's program, you may never get it to work.
    something like this:

I will also see if I can find anyone in the UK that does this

Oh, sorry, I did not realize that you're in UK. Surely, better of finding domeone local because there is a possibility that catrtridges and printers are market designated and not cross compatible. I. e. cartridges/chips from US machines may not work in UK designated machines. I don't know if Xerox does it but OKI does it for sure.

I managed to find a chip supplier here in the UK and their replacements worked flawlessly.
