When I print my envelopes they are coming out embossed where the folds are.

Hi trftimes,

This "embossing" or creasing effect on envelopes is a very common issue with laser/LED printers like the Xante Ilumina. It happens when the pressure and heat from the fuser unit are too high for the multiple layers of paper going through at the folded seams.

Here are the quickest ways to fix it:

  1. Check Fuser Envelope Levers: Most fuser units have blue or green levers specifically for printing envelopes. These levers release some of the roller pressure to prevent the fuser from crushing the thick seams. Make sure you have flipped these to the "Envelope" position before printing. Remember to flip them back for regular paper, or toner won't fuse properly!
  2. Change Media Settings: Ensure your printer driver and the machine's control panel are set to "Heavy Envelope" or the specific envelope media type. This slows down the printer and adjusts the fuser temperature so it doesn't have to squeeze as hard to melt the toner.
  3. Flap Orientation: Try feeding the envelopes with the flaps open (if your driver allows) or changing the feed direction (e.g., feeding short-edge first instead of long-edge) to change how the fuser rollers hit the overlapping seams.
Make sure you check those fuser pressure levers first, as that solves the problem 90% of the time!

  • I cannot find any fuser settings. I have tried many thickness settings. I have had this printer for many years and all of a sudden it has started this. It doesn't seem to matter what media settings I put it on I get the same results. Same brands of envelopes I have always used also.

It's been a long time, but is there a cam adjustment that can be turned on the no-op side of the fuser to increase the spacing between the fuser rollers slightly?

Is the fuser in good condition, or does it possibly have a swelling on one side of one of the rollers? Sometimes near the end of a fuser's life I've seen the rollers develop oddities that can cause odd issues for the last 1,000 sheets.
