I am running 3 web presses that have a indirect dampening system on them.
I am finding a substance in the bottom of the water pans that has the consistency of
wet mud. We thought is was clay being leached out of the paper and fed back to the
water pan. One of the test results came back identifying the substance as sand. If we
let the water evaporate out of the substance it does appear to be sand. We mainly run a 30# SNC sheet from 3 different suppliers and have seen this substance from all papers.
We run a Fogra type etch. The 2 direct dampening presses are not seeing this
substance in their water pans. Has anyone seen this?

Talk to your paper manufacturer. We've run into this problem when running cheaper papers.

Either cheap paper or your water supply is contaminated
