Small Print Shop Setup.

Good Evening All,

Hoping that someone can provide a little guidance. We are looking to setup a small print shop doing allot of our in house print work but also printing menus for local takeaways (who we already deal with).

We are looking for a machine which is can be operated by someone with little prior print knowledge and with as little additional equipment as is possible. Average size print run would be 30k based on A4 finished size.

We had been looking at getting something like a Heidelberg QM DI 46-4. Or should we be looking at more traditional setup using something like the Heidelberg QM series and getting the CTP etc?

If anyone could provide some guidance this would be great.

Thanks.

Chris.

For a run of 15,000+ stick with offset or a di offset - faster and cheaper per print than digital for this run size.
Digital laser would only make sense for this job if you can add value with some variable data or more variation to add uniqueness and catch extra attention... e.g. get an advantage from an individual image run length of a few thousand or less.

  • Thanks for your reply. We had been looking at a Heidelberg QM Pro as I believe these are DI. Any thoughts on such a machine?

  • Guys you should pick the equipment driven by your particular customer demand. Look at the samples of what are you plan on printing, Digital B/W and Color Printer is a must these days and most easiest way to get imaged sheets out of your door but look at those Take-away menus carefully, majority of those might be printed in single or two color process... If these are the only high number runs you're going to have may be opt out for 2 color press is better idea. Sure you can run 1 or 2 color jobs on DI but why?
