sm52 blanket washers inop. 2nd unit

2000 2 color SM 52 without console....

My blanket washer stopped working on my second unit. When I look at the sensor that senses the spinning of the washer or the sensors that "sees" that the wash up device is installed, The red LED's are not lit. On the first unit they will light if I put an ink knife over them. they "see" it. But not on the second unit they dont "see it" anys suggestions on where and what to check for.... I am surrprised they both on the second unit are not working. Thanks Henry

 

If I was the mechanic onsite I would change both sensors. Its really the only way to be sure. Very easy to change, they are just plug in sensors which attach right behind the DS side cover.

 

quick tip, when replacing these sensors, I would first unplug the old sensor and plug the new one in before removing the old sensors, just in case it is something else. Like I said in the above post, simply remove DS side cover. It is a good practice to get into to turn power off when unplugging and plugging in anything electrical. Once power is up use your knife, or use a flat blade screwdriver tip to test function of sensor. Let me know what you come up with.

 

Thanks for the tips. I will have to order the sensors. but first I will swap out form the first unit to make sure we dont get a part we dont need. In the mean time at least my 2nd unit will work which is better since I usually run one color jobs on this unit.... Thanks Henry

 

sm 52 blanket washer

Having an issues with second unit washer, it seems to have an error code for advancement of cloth.. i start the wash up cycle and soon as it cycles to start it stops. both sensor lights are working and are on.. like to know if its motor the gears the blanket washer? any ideas?

 

When you say both sensors lights are on Im sure you mean the two on the drive side of the machine where the blanket washer is. The red LED closest to you is for the end of towel detection. The one farthest from you senses towel movement. If you look on the washer itself, you will see a shaft with a sprocket like gear on the drive side. This is what that sensor is detecting. Best way to see if this works is to remove the towel from the washer and reinstall the washer without a towel. Once the washer is locked into place, manually turn this shaft and you should see this LED turn off and on with each high point of the sprocket. If so, it is working correctly and you have a bad motor. If it is not turning off and on then you need to confirm that you have 1.5mm between the high point of the sprocket and the sensor. Hope this helps.
