SM102 - Main Motor Brake Error

Hi All,
We are experiencing a Brake Error on our press intermittently.
The error occurs more often when the motor is hot from extended use.

Please see attached pictures of the ERROR SYMBOLS and the ERRORS under DYN TEST

Could anyone please give me some advice on what might be causing the error?
When this occurs, the press stops running and won't run again until we reboot the machine.
The error clears up most of the time on reboot but today we had a problem where the error persisted for a while. When the motor cooled down a bit, the error cleared and the press was able to run again.

The above error occurs mainly when the press has been running for some time.

Any advice on this would be appreciated.

Kind Regards
Shawn

Hello Shawn,
It's a common problem. There is no other way rather replacing the disk and springs.

  • Hello Matthew,

The motor was recently overhauled and cleaned but the company that did the work said that the brushes and brake disc still had plenty life. Could it be the springs that are too weak for the brake?

In any event, I also think a complete brake replacement is recommended.

    Thank you for your feedback.

    Regards

    Shawn

    Hello Shawn,
The disc is made of carbon and its surface has become glossy after over the time. During the brake test, the disc slips and if the machine turns more than 4 degrees then the brake error pop up on CPTronic. As you also mentioned, brake replacement would be a good idea. Send me a photo from the brake, perhaps I have one refurbished in my stock.

    Hello Matthew,
We are experiencing the problem again right now, as you messaged me.
Is there any way of cleaning the existing brake disc so that we can run again until we are able to replace the disc? Can we easily remove the disc and replace it?

    Kind Regards

    Shawn

    Hello Matthew,
The technician who recently worked on the motor (2 weeks ago) is en-route to us to open up the brake and check. I will send you photos when it is opened up today.

Thank you again for your advice. I hope we can resolve this issue soon.

    Kind Regards

    Shawn

  • during the brake test the machine does not stop within the required range then it is a slippage problem either the springs or the worn or slack belt, or the brake lining to be checked

As I can see from the photos, the disc has worn out as the surface looks glossy despite the thickness is still fine. You need to change the disc including the compression springs. I may have one set in my stock but need to check on Monday.
