Hello everyone,

I am new to using a Ryobi 512 offset printing machine, so I am still learning.
I currently have a problem with the double sheet detector. The machine shows Code 17, even when there is no paper in the feeder.

Things I already tried:
  • Cleaning the sensors
  • Checking the feeder area
  • Testing with paper/tape on the sensor

Hi adnane,

Error Code 17 on the Ryobi 512 means the double sheet detector circuit is constantly triggered. Since you've already cleaned the sensors and the error persists even with no paper, here are the most likely culprits to check next:

  1. Broken Wiring / Cable Short (Most Common): The cables connecting the sensor to the main board constantly vibrate and flex while the machine runs. A broken wire inside the cable harness will cause an open circuit, making the machine think a double sheet is permanently blocking the sensor. Trace the wire and check for continuity.
  2. Amplifier / Calibration Issue: The sensor usually connects to a small amplifier board which has a potentiometer (a small dial) to adjust sensitivity. It may have drifted or failed and needs to be recalibrated.
  3. Dead Emitter or Receiver: If one side of the sensor (either the light/ultrasonic emitter or the receiver) has completely burned out, it will act as if it's permanently blocked. You might need to replace the sensor eye itself.
I would start by taking a multimeter and checking the continuity of the sensor cables. Good luck!
