    Hi,
We have a very old Xerox DocuColor 12 with a Splash G640 RIP that we've been using for years for running in-house comps & prints as a graphic design firm. For the most part, it's worked pretty well for us. The output is decent, though it's had various degrees of banding issues. And the RIP has allowed us to get the color pretty accurate for a laser printer.

But it's breaking down more & more, and replacement parts are nearly impossible to get anymore. And our Splash RIP hasn't been updated in years, doesn't have drivers for the latest OS X, and recently started shutting itself down every night. So we're due for something new.

We don't do high-volume, so don't need a big office production unit. Quality of output and color control is far more important. Just looking for advice on options, as we haven't looked into it in a while. Not sure what other brands/models are worth checking beyond Xerox.

    - We checked out the Phaser 7800 and it seems like it might meet our needs, but gets a lot of horrible reviews for reliability and consumables costs. We're looking for LESS headaches, not more. Opinions?!?

    Here's our priorities:
    • Great quality, smooth, color-accurate and/or 'calibratable' output
    • Reliable, solid operation with good, up-to-date drivers for Mac
    • Can handle at least 11x17, better would be 12x18.
    • Can handle some cardstock (up to 110lb index?!?), and labels on occasion.
    • Reliable duplexing would be nice, but we don't do it all the time. Manual duplexing is important too.
    • 'Reasonable' consumables costs. Not sure if we want to be in a lease or support contract anymore, but are open if it's more affordable.
    • Good and fast support from manufacturer when things break or aren't printing well. This is key, especially when we have important deadlines.
