Hello. This is my first post on this forum and Im new to this printing world, so don't be harsh.

However, I would like to buy a largeformat printer for photography. For both private and small business use (I have friends of friends who probably are willing to pay for good prints).

I wonder how good an Epson 9700 perform? Will this 4(5) cart system limit my output? How would it compare to a 9890? Is it worth the pricetag?

I will print both canvas and different photopapers. I have been searching the web for deep reviews, but I cannot find any. I have also contacted Epson, but their answers didn't really help me that much. They were just talking about the different amount of carts, which will gives better results.

Im also interested in other large format printers aswell. I would love some suggestions.

    Hello,

The 9700 is a 5 ink printer which is normally used for small businesses doing quick, but good quality prints. I've had customers that bought this model to transfer it to sublimation printing. The 9890 has the 9 inks (10 total with both Matte Black and Photo Black). Granite, you will pay a little more for the 9890, but the quality will be better. You can check us out as we sell both models and have discounts (rebates) on most printers. We also sell the inks and papers.

Hi, i'm user of LFP Canon model IPF 8300. This is the best way to print foto without any problems. In first you will have a largest DMAX on glossy media 2.65 ,no need to pay for change MATT/GLOSSY black , hot swap, no clogging , hard drive and plugin to photoshop, No need to buy RIP and last you will have a spectrodensitometer which will give you chance to be repetitive on any media but in canon you will use a bubble jet on demand termal technology and print head live 6,7 liter of ink this is only one minus.

Printer is very fast ( faster then epson - belive me i've had one 7880), zero bronzing on lucia EX, zero banding.

    think about it

How durable / waterproof is the ink on an IPF 8300? Does the current canon or epson ink have a superior durability now? (thinking of the risk of customers damaging unframed/unsleeved posters/prints while handling them.)

    Relever,

Truthfully, Canon IPF8300 and Epson 9890 are pretty much identical in most aspects. I know this due to us having both printers in our office and we use them constantly. The color may look a tad better on the Canon and has user replaceable print heads as well as the HDD (helpful for most people/businesses to reprint w/o getting back on the computer). Epson has the 3 size inks and top loader for paper. There are many pros and cons between the brands. We've been selling many of the IPF8300's since they are being discontinued and there are crazy discounts on them now until they are gone. The older Epson series had certain issues that were fixed in the newer models, but doesn't mean there won't be issues with them.

The 9890 hasn't had the clogging that I've heard of. The Matte/Glossy black is also on the printer (hot swap), but truthfully, the 7900/9900 is supposed to be the top of the line printer with the Orange and Green. Our printer specialist mentioned that our of all inkjet printers. But, the IPF8300/IPF8400 will still do a good comparison.

I would say your right and wrong at the same time. I believe it just depends on the person using the printer and what they print to give this information.

Hot Swap for sure but it cost and customer not always was inform before buying. HOT SWAP i Canon have better solutions becouse only canon can use all of ink and still printing on any color. MBK/BK are on two different print heads.

I like Epson printer but people form LFP Canon works harder:_)

Durable is excellent. Scratch resistant is the best i've ever see Canon working on it good. I was printing Photo wallpaper and place it on water with washer and looks not even scratch. Of course some part of pigment went off but its enough and i my city i have customer on printings Self Adheirng, Vinyl, poypropylen even textil on it.

PS. i You want to i could send you sample :)

We're photographers and use an HP Z3200 which is a 12 ink machine for much of our output.

You need to decide what gamut or color range you want to be able to print. The Epson 9700 will have a smaller gamut and may not be suitable for fashion work because it won't be able to reproduce the extremes of colour saturation. The Z3200 will do nearly all the ARGB gamut.

One big difference between Epson and HP machines is the ink usage. The Z3200 is so frugal, except for the gloss optimiser.
